How is filling of air conditioners for a car?

A connection point is found. It is usually located in the engine compartment and is equipped with a special valve for filling the air conditioner coolant.
A filling machine is connected to this valve. The filling unit measures the pressure and amount of coolant present. If necessary, drain the air conditioner system of residual coolant and oil. The vacuum pump sucks the remaining air and moisture from the system. Fill the system with a new , appropriate amount of coolant and compressor oil in the appropriate proportions. Restarts the system and checks for leaks. If everything is in order , refill the system to the required pressure.

This process is carried out by certified GT Garage auto mechanics, as incorrect A/C refilling can damage the A/C system. Also, special coolant for car air conditioning systems must be used.

How often should the car air conditioner be refilled?

There is no single recommendation on how often to refill the car air conditioner, as it depends on several factors:

  • The age of the car and the condition of the air conditioning system – newer and better maintained systems do not need filling as often.
  • Intensity of use – the more the conditioner is used, the faster leaks can occur and the need to replenish the liquid.
  • Existence of leaks – if there are leaks, the liquid level drops faster.
  • However, most manufacturers recommend checking the air conditioner filling level every 1-2 years or every 12,000 – 24,000 km according to the maintenance schedule.

If the conditioner begins to lose efficiency, this may be a signal of an insufficient fluid level and needs to be topped up. Also, refilling should be done if the conditioner has been repaired or parts have been replaced, in order to restore the correct amount of liquid. In general, it is better to keep the air conditioner sufficiently filled, as it can cool the cabin more effectively and prevent other damage.

When should you turn on the car air conditioner?

The main cases when it is recommended to turn on the car air conditioner:

  • In hot weather to cool the air inside the car. The air conditioner not only cools the air, but also reduces humidity, making the cabin environment more pleasant to the senses.
  • If the window begins to fog up from the inside, turning on the air conditioner will dry the air and prevent fogging, improving visibility.
  • If there is an unpleasant smell in the car or the air seems heavy and oppressive, turning on the air conditioner will refresh and purify the air.
  • If the car has been left in the sun and the interior is very hot, the air conditioner will quickly cool it down and make the air more pleasant to breathe.
  • To improve the driver’s comfort and alertness during a long drive, it is recommended to turn on the air conditioner.

In general, the air conditioner does not need to be turned on continuously, it is enough to turn it on when you need to cool or refresh the air. This will help maintain a pleasant temperature and reduce humidity in the cabin, as well as prevent the windows from fogging up.

Is car air conditioner dangerous to health?

No, the car air conditioner itself is not a health hazard if it is properly installed, maintained and used.

However, there are some nuances associated with the use of conditioner:

  • If the air conditioner filter is not cleaned or changed regularly, dust, germs and mold can accumulate in the system. If they are inhaled, it can irritate the respiratory system.
  • If the difference between the temperature outside and the cabin is too big, you may feel cold and there is a risk of catching a cold. It is better to avoid rapid cooling.
  • Improper use of the air conditioner, such as leaving the recirculation mode on for too long, can lower the oxygen level in the cabin, causing nausea.

In general, if the conditioner is used correctly and maintained regularly, it does not pose any significant health risks. It is important to prevent the possible accumulation of microbes and dust, as well as to avoid the effect of excessive cooling.
